Taiwan arms purchase on hold

Taiwan is postponing purchases of United States-made Black Hawk helicopters and Patriot air defence systems that are part of a US$6.4 billion ($8 billion) weapons package that has been strongly opposed by China, officials say.

A legislator said the delay was caused by budgetary shortfalls, while the Defence Ministry blamed it on manufacturing delays.
