PARIS (AP) The head of the Syrian National Coalition says the opposition group condemns weapons of mass destruction, drawing a sharp distinction with the government of Bashar Assad during a visit to Paris.
Ahmad al-Jarba, who met Thursday with the French president, said the coalition in particular opposed chemical arms, "which could give rise to their use in the same manner as the Assad regime."
The coalition is hoping to persuade Western powers to offer more support including weapons. The U.S., Britain and France accuse the Assad government in a chemical weapons attack that an international aid group said killed 355 people. Syria's government denies it, and Syria's state media accused rebels in a contested district near Damascus of using chemical weapons against government troops on Saturday.
