A New Year's Eve reveller has been taken to hospital with a fence post in his leg after being impaled on it just before the midnight fireworks show in Sydney.
Police say the man, aged in his 20s and heavily intoxicated, became impaled when he tried to jump the fence at Shakespeare Place in Sydney's Botanic Gardens.
The post had penetrated all the way through his left thigh.
He was stuck for 45 minutes as rescue crews tried to free him, but they eventually had to cut the fence.
A police spokeswoman said the man had been taken to St Vincent's Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
