Sydney 'mooning' ends badly for policewoman

A Sydney policewoman has been knocked unconscious after arresting a drunken man for baring his buttocks.

Police were patrolling Harris Street, Pyrmont, about 7.30pm (AEDT) last night when they spotted the 28-year-old man with his jeans lowered to his knees, exposing his buttocks.

While officers were talking to the man, who police say was drunk, he tried to snatch his driver's licence and a police notebook from a male constable, who had been taking down his details.

A struggle occurred and the man allegedly grabbed the officer around the throat, making it difficult for him to breathe.

Police were forced to use a baton to make the man let go of the officer.

He was eventually arrested and taken to City Central Police Station.

The man again became aggressive towards police and allegedly elbowed a female senior constable to the jaw, causing her to fall to the ground and strike her head on the concrete floor.

She lost consciousness for about two minutes.

The man was subsequently charged with offensive behaviour, resisting police, three counts of assaulting police and assaulting police causing actual bodily harm.

He was released on bail to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on January 24.

The policewoman was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and later released.
