A phone video taken of a gang rape shows the victim's alleged attackers high-fiving each other while she is subjected to a "pack attack", a Sydney court has been told.
Five males arrested yesterday have been charged with the aggravated sexual assault of the teenage girl at a home in Sydney's south-west on January 9 this year.
They are alleged to have filmed the rape on phone video and then distributed the footage to students at a Catholic school.
Two of the boys, one aged 17 from Green Valley and another aged 18, from Hoxton Park, appeared in Parramatta Children's Court today.
Police Prosecutor Melanie Fitzsimmons told the court two of the five boys had sexual intercourse with the victim while the others stood by giving encouragement and high fives.
She said the 17-year-old from Green Valley had played "an extremely active role" in the attack.
"The young person is actively involved and encouraged by the others," Ms Fitzsimmons told the court.
She said the 17-year-old had put his penis in the victim's mouth and that in the video of the incident, the girl could be seen trying to resist.
"The victim can be seen in the video trying to push this person away and trying to get up," she said.
"It appears that she is known to the young people and it appears they have taken advantage of her.
"It's nothing short of a pack attack on this young person."
Ms Fitzsimmons said the 18-year-old from Hoxton Park, who was 17 at the time of the attack, was accused of passing wind on the victim and slapping her.
A lawyer for the teenagers told the court that the phone video of the alleged rape did not reflect the issue of consent, which the court would have to investigate.
While the defendants could be seen in the video, they would challenge the charges on the basis that consent was given for sex.
"The facts do not reflect what the video shows," their lawyer said.
Magistrate Paul Mulroney denied both boys bail, noting the seriousness of the alleged offence and the strong prosecution case.
He said he would be concerned at the possibility of them reoffending if they were released on bail.
The two were remanded in custody to face court again on May 31.
The other three accused have also been held in custody to appear on the same date.
