A baby boy found abandoned by the side of a road on the NSW Central Coast may have crawled out of his home, police say.
The distressed relatives of the baby are speaking with police.
The child, believed to be about one year old, was spotted by a passing motorist Walmsley Street, at Ourimbah, about 10.40pm last night.
Detectives canvassed homes in the immediate area in a bid to trace the boy's parents.
But after failing to find them, the boy was placed into care with the Department of Community Services overnight.
He has since been identified and his family contacted.
A police spokeswoman said relatives of the boy are now speaking with detectives to establish how he came to be found on the road.
The spokeswoman said it is possible he may have crawled out of his home.
