MELBOURNE - A man escaped from an attempted house break-in by seizing a police car sent to the scene.
Earlier, police tried to pull over a speeding car on Anakie Road at Lovely Banks, near Geelong at 11pm (AEST) on Wednesday, but they gave up the chase when the car reached speeds of up to 120kmh and the driver switched off its lights.
Minutes later police answered a triple-0 call from a woman who said a car had pulled into her front yard and two men were trying to break into her house.
Police used capsicum spray to subdue the pair and arrested one of them, a 28-year-old from Whittington.
But his accomplice jumped in the police car and drove off.
Shortly after, 29-year-old Lara man surrendered himself to police and the police car was recovered undamaged from an address in McHarrys Road, Lara.
