Surrogacy laws relaxed

Laws making altruistic surrogacy a crime in Queensland will be repealed, allowing women to bear children for others.

Premier Anna Bligh said the non-commercial practice would be decriminalised and regulated.

Queensland is the only Australian state in which altruistic surrogacy is a criminal offence. A ban on commercial surrogacy will remain.
