A suicide bomber blew himself up yesterday in a crowd of Iraqis rushing to help victims from an earlier blast, killing eight policemen and wounding 20 bystanders, authorities said.
The explosions were in downtown Ramadi, the Sunni-dominated capital of Anbar province 115km west of Baghdad. Minutes after the first blast, the suicide bomber joined the crowd of people trying to help the wounded and detonated his explosives-packed vest, said local council chairman Jasim al-Halbusi.
He said the suicide bomber was wearing a military uniform.
