PERTH - A motorbike stunt rider has died after crash-landing while trying to jump between two ramps at a festival at Exmouth in Western Australia.
The 27-year-old, a member of a stunt group called Homegrown Maniacs, was performing at the annual Ningaloo Whale Shark Festival, 1265km north of Perth, when the accident happened yesterday.
WA Police say the rider suffered crushing chest injuries after missing his landing platform and crashing into the edge of the ramp.
He was taken to Exmouth District Hospital complaining of breathing difficulties but his condition worsened and he collapsed and died from his injuries, a police spokesman said.
Police and WorkSafe officials are investigating the accident and a coronial inquiry will be launched.
