A planned street cricket match involving Indian students and police officers to ease tensions in Melbourne has been cancelled after another attack.
Cricket Victoria had initiated the event but community programmes officer Andy Lee said Indian students were too upset to take part.
The game was scheduled for Melbourne's CBD to improve relations between police and Indians after a spate of assaults on the students.
However, a knife attack on a 21-year-old Indian nursing student on Tuesday at the Chisholm TAFE in Dandenong forced its cancellation.
Police believe that while some of the attacks may be racially-motivated, it is more likely part of a broader issue of escalating street violence.
