KEY POINTS:
Brisbane - A house was struck by lightning and more than 1700 homes are without power after a night of severe storms in south-east Queensland.
The region was hit by storms from about 11pm NZT yesterday, which continued into the night and resumed this morning.
The State Emergency Service (SES) received 82 calls throughout the night, with the majority of those calls coming from the Gold Coast region, an SES spokeswoman said.
There were also a number of calls from Ipswich, west of Brisbane, and the Beaudesert and Logan areas south of Brisbane.
"Those calls have been mainly to do with fallen trees and roof damage," the spokeswoman said.
The worst hit area was the town of Munruben, south of Brisbane, where all the homes in one street were damaged by fallen trees, she said.
Residents of Munruben reported conditions akin to a mini-cyclone last night.
Meanwhile, a house in nearby Jimboomba caught fire shortly after 8.30am today, the SES said, with the blaze reportedly sparked by a lightning strike.
Six fire crews were at the scene this morning, with the house well alight.
Just over 1700 homes remained without power this morning, an Energex spokesman said, with more than 1500 of those in the Gold Coast and hinterland region.
There were also approximately 200 homes in the Logan region without power, the spokesman said.
