BAMAKO, Mali (AP) The governor of Kidal in northern Mali says ministers from the West African nation's new government were attacked with stones during their first visit since the Cabinet was formed.
Adama Kamissoko said that upon the delegation's arrival at Kidal's airport Sunday, protesters chanting slogans supporting the creation of an independent state in the north pelted the ministers' vehicles with stones, breaking windows on two of them.
The delegation included the ministers of security and territorial administration as well as Cheick Oumar Diarrah, who was given the new post of reconciliation minister in the Cabinet named earlier this month.
Separatist sentiment on the part of Tuareg rebels runs high in Kidal, which like the rest of northern Mali fell under rebel control following a March 2012 coup.
