Standoff man wants bail

A New Zealand man who engaged police in a 16-hour standoff as he allegedly threatened self-harm aboard his boat on the Brisbane River will apply for bail next week.

Nicholas Barry Williams, 54, appeared briefly in the Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday.

He has been in custody since October 25 facing charges including serious assault and bomb hoax.

Police oppose bail.
