ALCORCON, Spain - Spanish youths rioted through a Madrid suburb for a second weekend running today, though in smaller numbers, throwing stones at police and journalists they blame for branding them racists.
Last Monday up to 1000 young Spaniards rampaged through this dormitory town south of Madrid hunting for Latin American gangs they blamed for a stabbing the previous night.
Anti-riot police were primed for trouble on Saturday after text messages were sent between teenagers during the week calling for another show of force against Latin gangs.
Hundreds of youngsters goaded police and overturned bins and even a car according to newspaper El Pais, quoting police sources.
However, following a week of intense media interest in which the youths were branded racists by some publications, teenagers wearing hooded tops and with masked faces held banners saying "No to racism" and "Press manipulation".
Some youths said the protest was not racist in nature, but one added "we are fed up of some of the things the Latin Americans do", newspaper El Mundo reported on its website.
Far-right extremists also attended the much-hyped demonstration.
