MADRID (AP) A Spanish provincial court has dropped its investigation of 22 officials from rail infrastructure company Adif in its probe of a high-speed train crash that killed 79 people, leaving the train driver the only one facing likely trial.
A statement Tuesday from the court in Santiago de Compostela said there was nothing to indicate that the officials could be considered suspects for having let the train run on the stretch of track near Santiago where the crash happened July 24.
The driver has admitted from the beginning that he was going too fast when the crash occurred and has been provisionally charged with multiple counts of negligent homicide.
The Adif officials included the company's three most recent presidents, board members and managers in charge of safety.
