MADRID (AP) Spanish police say they have broken up a ring of thieves who choked foreign and female victims in a busy downtown neighborhood until they lost consciousness and then fled with their belongings.
Madrid-based national police said in a statement that three men aged 31 to 36 are detained under suspicion of at least 11 assaults, one of which was captured on grainy subway security video.
The victims told police they were attacked from behind and choked until they passed out. Victims woke up to find themselves lying on the ground with their valuables gone.
The video released by police Tuesday showed two people being attacked in a subway tunnel by three suspects. The suspects then ran away.
