KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) The British Virgin Islands is investigating allegations that a customs officer assaulted a South Korean visitor at the territory's international airport.
Customs Commissioner Wade Smith said Monday the accused officer has been placed on leave. He declined to provide more details.
The BVI Beacon newspaper saysthe visitor was a reporter for South Korea's Channel A who claims he and a colleague were improperly denied entry after arriving on a flight from Puerto Rico.
The journalists told the newspaper they intended to vacation on the islands but also hoped to meet sources for a story they planned on the territory's financial services sector. The tiny island chain is the nominal home to more than 500,000 companies.
The alleged incident occurred Thursday at the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport.
