New laws to ban synthetic drugs have been introduced to the South Australian parliament.
The provisions outlaw any products that seek to mimic or are marketed to have the same effects as illicit drugs.
That will include any substances already available or others that become available in the future.
Any stores that sell synthetic drugs may also be closed down.
Attorney-General John Rau said, while the proposed laws would stop existing and new products getting on shop shelves in the first place, there remained a problem with access to synthetic drugs online.
