South African mining magnate Brett Kebble killed

JOHANNESBURG - Controversial South African mining magnate Brett Kebble was shot and killed while on his way to a dinner engagement on Tuesday, domestic news agency SAPA reported, citing a spokesman for the businessman.

"Several shots were fired at his car. Mr Kebble died on the scene," spokesman David Barritt told SAPA.

Kebble last month stepped down as chief executive from three interlinked firms after they ran into financial problems.
