The Solomons has elected a new Prime Minister, the AAP news agency reported.
He is opposition candidate Manasseh Sogavare, who has previously been prime minister.
He was elected 28 votes to 22 by members of the 50-seat parliament.
Australian and New Zealand police and troops stood guard outside the legislature during the vote.
