A 6.8-magnitude quake has struck the Solomon Islands this morning.
The quake - which hit Dadali about 7.30am NZT - has been classed as strong by the United States Geological Survey.
There was a low likelihood of casualties, USGS said.
"Overall, the population in this region resides in structures that are vulnerable to earthquake shaking, though some resistant structures exist," it stated.
"Recent earthquakes in this area have caused secondary hazards such as landslides that might have contributed to losses."
