KEY POINTS:
Canada drew closer to an early election yesterday after a meeting between Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the main opposition leader.
A senior official in Harper's office said the Prime Minister was likely to dissolve Parliament some time over the weekend and call an election for October 14.
Opposition Liberal leader Stephane Dion said Harper wanted to go to the polls now, instead of waiting until October 2009.
