JERUSALEM - Right-wing politician Ariel Sharon has dimmed Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak's hopes of forging a "national emergency government" - saying he wants no part of it.
Barak reiterated his desire to form a unity government with Sharon's Likud Party after a summit agreement with the Palestinians to end the bloodshed. Sharon welcomed Barak's pledge to end the violence but regretted Israel had not won guarantees that Islamic militants be arrested.
Likud blames the clashes on what they call Barak's far-reaching concessions offered at Camp David peace talks July. Palestinians put the blame on Sharon's visit to a Jerusalem shrine which is holy to Muslims and Jews.
