Police fear a 64-year-old man who failed to return from his regular morning swim at Perth's popular Cottesloe Beach may have been taken by a great white shark.
A search resumed yesterday for Bryn Martin, who was swimming out to a buoy off the beach early on Monday when he disappeared.
An air, sea and foreshore search on Monday failed to find Martin, from Mosman Park in Perth's west, but later in the day a pair of torn Speedo bathers was found near the buoy and identified as his by his wife. A West Australian Fisheries Department officer said the damage to them was consistent with a great white shark attack.
Water police, surf lifesavers and SAS soldiers are involved in the search.
