Great white sightings force the closure of Newcastle beaches
A five-metre great white shark has kept New South Wales beaches closed for a record fifth day in a row.
Ongoing sightings of the shark, including a close encounter with lifeguard patrols, have kept Newcastle beaches closed and thousands of swimmers away from the water along the coastline.
Nobbys Beach inspector Paul Bernard says reopening the beaches would be too risky, especially because of the size of the shark.
