New Zealander Karl Loo was at the scene where a fire engulfed a 30-story apartment complex only two blocks from where he is currently living in Shanghai, China.
Authorities said 42 people died in the inferno, which sent residents scrambling down scaffolding to escape.
Mr Loo's footage was filmed on the corner of Changde & Changping Roads, approximately half an hour after the fire had started.
The apartments are 30 stories high and located in the affluent Jing'an District of Shanghai. Jing'an District is a major commercial area and home to many expats.
