A convicted sex offender who admitted possessing more than 70,000 child porn files will need drugs to stop him re-offending, a Melbourne court has heard.
Prosecutor Linda Skoblar said in a plea hearing on Thursday that medical professionals believed Andrew David Henderson, 45, had a lack of insight into his offending and few control methods other than medication.
She said Henderson has been taking medication since his incarceration, but Judge Paul Grant should have "significant concerns" about whether he would keep taking it following his release.
Henderson had earlier pleaded guilty to possessing, accessing, making available and promoting his collection of child sex abuse images.
He has also pleaded guilty to failing to comply with his reporting conditions.
