At least seven people died and another 42 passengers were injured Thursday when a bus caught fire after an accident, Indian police said.
Police officer Kotagi Kallappa said the accident happened after the bus hit a road divider early Thursday near Hubli in Karnataka state, nearly 1,800 kilometers (1,100 miles) south of New Delhi.
Kallappa said the injured were taken to nearby hospitals, were six people were being treated for serious burns.
Other details were not immediately available.
India has the world's deadliest roads, with more than 110,000 people killed annually. Most crashes are blamed on reckless driving, poorly maintained roads and aging vehicles.
