Legendary rugby sevens player Waisale Serevi has made his first arrest as a new special police inspector.
Only hours after his appointment, the Fijian sevens player-coach went to the aid of a porter being attacked outside a Suva hotel.
The Fijian Times reported today it happened as Serevi and members of the national sevens team returned to the Peninsula Hotel from training on Friday.
When they heard a porter was being attacked by a man believed to be drunk, Serevi and his players went to the victim's assistance.
They held down the attacker who was later taken in for questioning.
The sevens team were in Suva preparing for the last leg of the IRB Sevens World Series in London and Scotland next week.
Serevi confirmed the incident but declined to elaborate when pressed for comments.
Serevi was appointed a Special Police Inspector on Friday.
One of his tasks as a Special IP will be to work with youths and be their mentor.
Fiji leads the sevens series with 104, with Manu Samoa trailing them by 10 points, followed by New Zealand on 90 points.
