SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) The former president of Florida-based shipping company Sea Star Line LLC has been sentenced to five years in prison after being accused of involvement in a Puerto Rico price-fixing case.
The U.S. Department of Justice said Friday that Frank Peake also was ordered to pay a $25,000 criminal fine.
Peake and other suspects were accused of fixing rates and surcharges for freight shipped between the U.S. mainland and Puerto Rico.
Justice officials said the case involved the three largest water freight carriers that serve those routes, including Crowley Liner Services Inc. and Horizon Lines LLC.
Together they have paid more than $46 million in criminal fines.
