A man bitten by a shark on the New South Wales coast is the second person to be attacked in the region in a week.
Dave Pearson, 48, was surfing off rocks just south of Crowdy Head on Wednesday night when a 2.5m shark attacked him, biting his left forearm.
"He was very lucky to come away from that without serious injuries," said Surf Life Saving caretaker Adam Eady.
"The shark bit through his board. If it hadn't been there it would have ripped him in half."
Last Thursday, a great white shark attacked 24-year-old Lisa Mondy at Jimmys Beach in Port Stephens.
