TOULOUSE, France - A man of North African origin was gunned down in Perpignan, just a week after the killing of another man from North Africa sparked tensions in the southern city, a police source said on Sunday local time.
Three men in a car, apparently belonging to the gypsy community, shot the man and fled, the source said.
Tensions between Perpignan's gypsy and North African communities have risen after a 28-year-old man from North Africa was battered to death by gypsies on May 22.
Some 200 young people from North Africa rallied in the city on Sunday evening, firing shots in the air, witnesses said. Some 300 policemen were at the scene.
