KEY POINTS:
Dropping floodwaters have allowed a massive clean-up to begin across north Queensland, but are hampering the search for a man missing for more than two days.
The search for the 34-year-old man feared drowned in floodwaters at Silky Oak, south of Tully, resumed at 7.30am (9.30NZT) today.
The body of a fellow 34-year-old passenger is believed to have been found by police on Monday afternoon.
The men were in a vehicle with five others when it was swept away by floodwaters on the Bruce Highway at 9.30am (11.30NZT) on Sunday.
The five other passengers were rescued.
A police spokeswoman said the search effort, aided by SES volunteers, had been hampered by dropping water levels, which prevented the use of floodboats.
"But the area is still quite wet and muddy so not a lot they can do on foot either," she said.
Floodwaters are also dropping further south in Ingham.
After peaking at 12.2m twice in one week, the Herbert River at Ingham has dropped to 9.55 metres and is expected to fall below eight metres by midnight on Tuesday.
About 56 emergency services personnel are assessing the damage as rescue workers and residents begin the massive clean-up effort.
Almost 3000 homes in Ingham have been affected.
But while the weather bureau says only light showers and local storms are forecast for Wednesday there are warnings there could be heavy rain over the Herbert River catchment area again on Thursday and Friday.
