A sub-machine gun was among weapons Norwegian police have found in the home of a man arrested in connection with last year's theft of Edvard Munch's world-famous masterpieces The Scream and Madonna.
"Several weapons have been found, including an MP5," submachine gun, said Oslo police lawyer Morten Hojem Ervik.
"We now have to check to see if he had a permit for these weapons. We are not sure yet if this is illegal," he added.
The weapons were found after police made their first arrest on Saturday directly connected with the theft of the paintings, although Oslo police had said arrests abroad earlier last week of four people in connection with a Norwegian bank robbery could help in the Munch case.
Armed thieves took the paintings, which police say they are optimistic of recovering, last August.
