ADEN, Yemen - Scorching temperatures have killed 10 people in Yemen's southern port city of Aden, Yemeni media reported today.
State media quoted a hospital official in Aden as saying three more people had died, after al-Ayyam daily said seven people, most of them elderly, had died after being brought to state hospitals on Monday.
Temperatures in Aden, a humid coastal city on the tip of the Arabian Peninsula, reached 43 degrees Celsius on Monday, while intermittent power cuts have put cooling systems out of action.
Temperatures in Aden usually fluctuate between 36 and 39 degrees Celsius at this time of year, according to data on the Weather Underground website (www.wunderground.com).
More than 100 people died in northern India and at least 50 in Pakistan earlier this month due to a heat wave that saw temperatures touch 52 degrees Celsius.
