Schoolie's Gold Coast balcony fall: Teen rushed to hospital

A teenager has fallen several floors from a hotel balcony on the Gold Coast early this morning during Schoolies week celebrations.

Ambulance and police crews were called to a Surfers Paradise hotel about 3am where a 17-year-old man had been injured after falling from a balcony.

Police believe the man was leaning over a balcony at the Cypress Ave apartment to retrieve something that had been dropped when he fell two floors.

He was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital by ambulance with a suspected fractured pelvis.

Queensland police have said it is believed the man was on the Gold Coast for Schoolies, and have used his acccident to warn school leavers.

"Police would like to remind all school leavers about acting responsibly particularly on balconies," police said.

Police have already been forced to warn teenagers about the possibility of falling from the city's signature high-rises during this year's Schoolies celebrations on the Gold Coast.

A dangerous balcony-hopping craze has swept Schoolies, prompting police to plead with revellers to make "smart decisions".

"It they happen to fall, they may never be hopping again," Chief Superintendent Terry Boland said.

"We have concerns about it, and we just really hope people can make smart decisions."
