A school on Rhode Island has fired all its teachers. The Central Falls School Committee this week approved a plan to fire every teacher at its underperforming high school at the end of the school year.
No more than half could be hired back. A federal United States effort to improve failing schools offers firing the entire teaching staff as one of the options.
Superintendent Frances Gallo earlier asked the teachers' union to agree to changes including a longer school day and extra tutoring by teachers.
