Former Manu Samoa captain Brian Lima will not face jail time following a public assault on his ex-wife.
The 42-year-old appeared in the Supreme Court in Apia, Samoa, yesterday and was sentenced to two years' supervision.
Lima - a rugby hero in the island nation - had been found guilty this month of three charges: causing grievous bodily harm, being armed with a dangerous weapon and using threatening words.
The charges came after Lima attacked his former wife, Lemalu Sina Retzlaff, outside a nightclub in December. Ms Retzlaff later spoke out in the local newspaper, which ran a photo of her battered face, to draw attention to domestic violence.
Yesterday Ms Retzlaff - the mother of Lima's three young sons - asked the judge to be lenient with her former husband.
