Oscar-nominated movie star Winona Ryder is to stand trial on charges of shoplifting thousands of dollars of goods from a luxury department store.
The decision came at a preliminary hearing for the actress at which a store detective said she saw Ryder in a changing room cutting security tags off items she is then alleged to have stolen.
Beverly Hills Superior Court Judge Elden Fox ruled that there was enough evidence to try the star on charges of grand theft, second-degree burglary, felony vandalism and possession of painkillers without a prescription.
Ryder, 30, was told to appear in court next Friday to be formally arraigned.
