Runaway moon causes traffic chaos on the streets of China's Fuzhou

Super Typhoon Meranti has made landfall in southern China and already has some residents of the coastal province of Fujian seeing the dark side of the moon.

Quite literally.

The moon rolled over cars as it was carried through the streets.

According to the English language lifestyle blog shanghaiist.com, Typhoon Meranti has nixed the highlight of the mid-Autumn festival, tonight's full moon, so cities across China have set up mini model moons for people to have their pictures taken with.

In the city of Fuzhou, however, the inflatable moon was no match for the strong winds lashing the country as the typhoon passes through.

A couple of residents captured the moon being picked up by the wind and carried through the streets of the city, causing traffic chaos.

The video shows the giant moon bouncing through the streets and over the tops of cars.

In one scene, it shows the moon bearing down on a motorcycle rider directly in its path.

The site speculates that with the moons sitting in cities across the country, it may not be the only runaway the country will see.

Typhoon Meranti was registered as a super typhoon before losing intensity as it swept over Taiwan late Wednesday.

It hit southern China on Thursday morning, bringing strong winds and rain and cutting power to hundreds of thousands of homes.
