BRISBANE - The wife of federal Opposition Leader Kevin Rudd has apologised to her husband and employees for the discomfort caused by the publicity surrounding her business.
Mr Rudd and wife Therese Rein flew into Brisbane from Sydney today after Ms Rein cut short a business trip to London.
Ms Rein has been under fire since it was revealed she underpaid workers in her multi-million dollar employment business.
Mr Rudd said they would spend the weekend discussing the options for the future of the company.
Mr Rudd said no decision had been made yet but they expected to make one before the federal election.
Ms Rein told reporters it was her responsibility to get it right.
"I hate to think that I've been of any discomfort or embarrassment to Kevin and it's certainly embarrassing to me as well," she told reporters at Brisbane airport today.
"I know that our intent was right but it's my responsibility to make sure that it was all implemented as per our policy, as per our values.
"And if I haven't done that or I've caused discomfort to anybody including Kevin then I'm really sorry."
Mr Rudd said he expected to take a hit in the polls following the controversy over his wife's business.
"I think when you make mistakes you do (lose support)," he said.
Mr Rudd will spend the morning in Brisbane before travelling to Dalby in south-western Queensland to meet with drought-stricken farmers.
