Royals arrive in Adelaide for stopover

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall have arrived in Adelaide for a whirlwind five-hour stopover during their tour of Australia.

The royal couple will make their first stop at Kilkenny Primary School in the city's western suburbs, where they'll look over a kitchen program established by culinary identity Stephanie Alexander.

From there they head to Penfolds winery at Magill in Adelaide's east, where they'll tour the vineyard and sample a selection of South Australian food and wine chosen by Maggie Beer.

The royals then head for the Adelaide Convention Centre, where Prince Charles will be shown plans to revamp the city's Riverbank precinct, including the major redevelopment of Adelaide Oval to host both the AFL and international cricket.

Their final event in Adelaide will be an official reception at Government House before they fly out to Melbourne at 6.25pm (CDT).

For Camilla, the visit to Adelaide is her first in an official capacity, while Prince Charles has not been to South Australia for almost 30 years.

The rushed trip will not give the public much opportunity to see the royals, with the best chance coming later in the day on the Torrens riverbank, before they arrive at the convention centre.

After storms earlier in the day, Adelaide has turned on a picture perfect spring day for the royal visit.
