Road deaths kill 98,738 in China

Accidents on China's roads, the most dangerous in the world, killed 98,738 people last year, or about 270 a day, but officials hailed an 8 per cent decline from 2004's carnage.

The number of injured fell slightly to 470,000 in almost as many accidents, the Ministry of Public Security said.
