KEY POINTS:
US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has rejected a North Korean bid to link the lifting of US financial sanctions against it to progress in talks on ending the regime's nuclear weapons programme.
Rice said the sanctions issue was "clearly in another lane" than six-party talks that began in Beijing this week with the goal of convincing North Korea to give up its nuclear arms.
