KEY POINTS:
BOGOTA - An explosion at a Colombian coal mine killed one worker and trapped eight others on Tuesday local time, three days after another deadly mining blast killed more than 30 people, authorities said.
Tuesday's explosion at the La Capilla mine in Boyaca province caused a collapse leaving four miners and four rescuers trapped in the mine, authorities said.
"Eight people are trapped... We don't know if they are alive or dead," said Ibeth Castro, a spokeswoman at the Office for Disaster Prevention and Attention in Bogota.
One woman was rescued, but later died in the hospital.
Over the weekend, 32 miners were killed in an explosion at a coal mine in the northeastern Norte de Santander province, near the border with Venezuela, when combustible gas ignited. It was one of the country's worst mining disasters.
