The remains of 30 men, women and children who served under Horatio Nelson in the Napoleonic wars will be reburied in Egypt today, more than 200 years after their deaths.
The bodies of the British nationals were discovered on a small Egyptian island in Abu-Qir Bay by an Italian archaeologist looking for Greek-Roman artefacts.
During the course of his digging on Nelson Island, Dr Paolo Gallo, professor of egyptology at the University of Turin, found the remains, which date back to the battle of the Nile in 1798.
The sailors, soldiers and service personnel all died fighting Napoleon Bonaparte's fleet during the battle.
