As a heat wave parched terrain, wildfires dotted the western United States at the weekend, forcing authorities to evacuate homes and close highways and wilderness areas.
Hundreds of people were ordered to leave their homes in Nevada, and a 160km stretch of the main highway in Utah was closed when a 65,000ha wildfire jumped the road.
Fires also burned in California, Colorado, Arizona, Idaho, Oregon and Washington.
