SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) Heavy rains have paralyzed traffic and caused heavy flooding across Puerto Rico's northeast region.
Police say dozens of streets and portions of highways have been closed, and several cars were abandoned along flooded roads in the capital of San Juan.
National Weather Service meteorologist Jose Antonio Estrada said in a phone interview that up to 2 inches (5 centimeters) of rain had fallen so far Thursday morning.
He said the rain will continue the rest of the day until the trough starts moving toward the northeast on Friday.
Puerto Rico often experiences heavy flooding in part because of weak infrastructure and aging drainage systems.
