Thousands of homes could be flooded in Gladstone as the Boyne River swells to a one in 100 year level.
An emergency flood alert was issued on Saturday morning and the big suburbs of Tannum Sands and Boyne Island, at the mouth of the Boyne river, are being asked to evacuate.
About 4.8 metres of water is gushing over the nearby Awoonga Dam and into the Boyne River, the Bureau of Meteorology said.
Levels over the spillway may reach at least six metres on Saturday with further continued rainfall.
West of Gladstone, over 370mm fell at Boolaroo Tops, 347mm fell at Kroombit Tops, 347mm in the Boyne catchment and Captain Creek, and 307mm in the Baffle Creek catchment.
